During last summer's Black Lives Matter protests in Washington, D.C., journalist and Ames native Will Fowler, a science writer for WE&T, and freelance journalist and editor, headed to the streets. At first intending to observe the demonstrations as a reporter, he quickly became involved with the movement directly. Can a reporter become so entangled in a story that remaining objective becomes impossible? A First Amendment Days event.

First Amendment Days
First Amendment Days is a weeklong celebration of our First Amendment freedoms - religion, speech, press, assembly, petition. A diverse assortment of speakers, events and activities are offered on campus every spring as a creative way to engage students and the entire Iowa State community to better understand the power of free expression. First Amendment Days is also designed to provide opportunities to exercise our five freedoms.
