The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) hosts a program that encompasses the best teaching practices and student support resources available at Iowa State. New faculty, staff with a teaching role, and graduate teaching assistants will learn about preparing for a successful first semester of teaching and exploring CELT's services, resources, and professional development opportunities.

Our Symposium Goals:
-To identify the policies, practices, and resources for effective teaching and learning at Iowa State University.
-To explore potential challenges to student success and identify various campus resources for student support.
-To discover the CELT services, support, and development opportunities available to educators at Iowa State University.

Faculty and Staff Cohort Program
Tuesday, August 17 (8-9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.)

For the Faculty and Staff Cohort, CELT will facilitate the same program using different modalities during the following times on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Choose the modality and time that best fits your needs:
8-9:30 a.m.: Face-to-Face session (198 Parks Library, Iowa State University)
10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.: Online synchronous session (via Zoom video-conferencing software)

Faculty and Staff Cohort includes Faculty (all new tenured, tenure-eligible, and term faculty) and Staff with a teaching role. Teaching Assistants (TA) will participate in the TA Cohort Program.

Teaching Assistant (TA) Cohort Program
Tuesday, August 17 (10 a.m.-12 p.m. via Zoom video-conferencing software )

All TAs who are new to the ISU classroom, or who have received a teaching assignment different from what they have done before, are strongly encouraged to attend this seminar. In this online workshop, teams of TAs will work together in breakout rooms to solve potential classroom scenarios on various topics such as academic dishonesty, classroom management, and inclusivity. A panel of experts will help TAs discuss appropriate steps to take when these situations occur in their classrooms.
