Lecture: Consumer Finance Research at the Federal Reserve Board
"Why Do They Do That? Lessons Learned from Consumer Finance Research at the Federal Reserve Board," Jeanne Hogarth, 2009-10 Hilton Chair visiting scholar. She will discuss her research on electronic banking, patterns of financial behavior, connections between knowledge and behavior in household financial management, and consumer information disclosure. A short reception in the Christian Peterson Art Museum will follow the presentation.

Conference: "Get Your Head in the Cloud"
Keynote speakers are Cloud computing experts Jeff Barr, Amazon.com; and Dennis Quan, IBM. This is free for all participants, but registration is required. Conference continues Sept. 25.
Lecture: Latina digitial divide in Iowa
"The Digital Divide for Latina Immigrants in Iowa: Status and Recommendations," Aurelio Curbelo, ISU Ag and Life Sciences. His research shows that reducing the digital divide among Latin American female immigrants to urban and rural Iowa can greatly enhance their educational status and increase their English proficiency. Increasing their computer skills would increase economic opportunities and socioeconomic conditions in their communities.

Join Steve Grody in an exploration of the distinctive vernacular art of graffiti in Los Angeles.
Reading: Dean Bakopoulos
"Please Don't Come Back from the Moon & Other Stories : A Fiction Reading," Dean Bakopoulos, ISU English. Bakopoulos is author of the novel Please Don't Come Back from the Moon, a New York Times Notable Book. He has lectured at many universities about the economic and environmental problems facing the post-industrial Rust Belt and has published related essays and criticism.
The Poetry of Art
Accompany University Museums as we explore the relationship between images and language by sharing poetry inspired by the current exhibitions with special guests Mary Swander, Iowa's Poet Laureate and ISU Distinguished Professor in Liberal Arts and Sciences; and Jim Coppoc, ISU English and American Indian Studies.

Lecture: "Toward a Post Carbon Food System"
Richard Heinberg is a senior fellow of the Post Carbon Institute, Sebastopol, Calif. He is widely regarded as one of the world's foremost Peak Oil educators, having delivered hundreds of lectures on oil depletion to a wide variety of audiences around the world. He is the award-winning author of eight books.

Add/drop deadline
Last day to add/drop a first half semester course without extenuating circumstances.
Designate a repeated course deadline
Last day to file a Designation of Repeated Course form for a first half-semester course that is not an automatic designated repeat.
Pass/Not Pass deadline
Last day to change a first half-semester course to or from Pass/Not Pass. Courses changed to graded basis after Sept 4 count toward total allowable P/NP credits used for graduation.

Newton is the farm manager of ISU's Bilsland Farm south of Luther in Boone County.
Retirement reception: Walter Hyde
Hyde, professor of veterinary diagnostic and production animal medicine, retires Sept. 25, after 38 years with the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
Curt F. Dale Memorial Lecture: Agrest and Gandelsonas Architects
The New York architecture firm Agrest & Gandelsonas designed the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Des Moines. The two principal architects will discuss the work of their firm with a focus on the sculpture park.
Final Friday - "Hot and Cool" Exhibition Reception
Join us for the first of five Final Fridays events. This reception will ease us into the seasonal transition from summer to fall with the exhibition Hot and Cool: Contemporary Glass Sculpture.
