Lecture: Energizing Architecture
Using examples from her book, "Energizing Architecture," photovoltaic design expert Claudia Lueling will give an overview of the important shift toward making buildings potential producers of energy rather than mere consumers and describe the green technologies and materials available to architects today. Part of the "Toward Sustainable Cities" series presented by the ISU Council on Sustainability, College of Design and LiveGreen! Initiative.
Engineering For A Sustainable World: An Artist's Approach
Rosette Gault's work is a blend of art and science. She holds a patent on paperclay, a plastic modeling mix of clay, paper pulp and water whose fired result can be indistinguishable from conventional clay, but is much lighter in weight. Gault is working to develop a water filtration system for developing countries, taking advantage of the nanoparticle size of the openings left by the burned-out paper in the firing process.
