One Idea, Many Plans: American "Neighborhood Unit" Concept in Independent India
Sanjeev Vidyarthi, assistant professor of urban planning and policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will describe how the American planning idea of the neighborhood unit was institutionalized as the prototypical model for designing residential neighborhoods in independent India, how the concept was transformed and how Indian cities actually developed over time. Graphic Design Lecture: Sol Sender, VSA Partners
Graphic designer and brand strategist Sol Sender, a partner at VSA Partners and founding director of the IBM Design Lab, will discuss his work in the ARTGR 281 Introduction to Visual Communication and Branding class. Sender is best known for creating President Obama's 2008 campaign logo. His lecture is free and open to the public.

Jay Familgietti is the 2012 Birdsall Dreiss Distinguished Lecturer with the Geological Society of America's Hydrogeology Division. He uses satellite remote sensing to track water availability and groundwater depletion on land. His work is aimed at improving hydrological prediction in weather and climate models.
