Kids Story Time
Each session features a theme with two or three books read aloud followed by a related craft or activity. The books, crafts and activities are intended for children ages two to seven years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Class: Black and White Digital Photography
This is a 4 week course on Wednesdays, July 2, July 9, July 16, and July 23 This course builds on the technical foundations of digital photography, expanding practical skills while also fostering your aesthetic awareness and vision as a photographer. Mark Stoltenberg will help you look at the world in a whole new way as you further explore the tools, techniques and identify the best subject matter to create black and white digital images.

Youth Activity: Discovery Station
The purpose of Reiman Gardens' discovery stations is to add a fun, informal activity in the Gardens during the summer that relates to the themed garden areas. The discovery stations are family oriented and designed so both youth and adults can participate in the activities.

Youth Summer Camp 2: Sunlight, Nature's Power Plant
Let students enjoy an afternoon outdoors exploring how the sun helps to power our planet. We will engage in hands-on educational activities inside and outside while learning about the energy of the sun, the effects of its light, and how it helps the plants and butterflies at Reiman Gardens! Perfect for ages 11-14. Summer Camp 1 is on Tuesday, June 10, and Summer Camp 3 is on Monday, August 4.

Youth Program: Plant Pals
Join us and cultivate a real garden at Reiman Gardens. We will learn about and grow lots of vegetables, pumpkins, tomatoes and sunflowers, as well as beautiful flowers. Each session has hands-on activities to interact with all the wonderful plants that we enjoy and eat. Classes are great for kids of all ages to participate in with an adult.

"Animal Flight - From Scales to Skin" presented by Dr. Rhea von Busse, Visiting Scholar, Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology, Iowa State University Bring your lunch to the Gardens and enjoy an education program. Garden Art Fair
The 11th Annual Garden Art Fair at Reiman Gardens provides an opportunity for artists to share their garden and nature inspired art with the public. Visitors can browse a variety of artist's works and buy products including jewelry, watercolor, pottery, woodwork, glass, and more. Food vendors will provide food throughout the day, and a variety of live music performances will complement the art.

Great Plants for Iowa Series: Ornamental Grasses
This series will allow participants to develop knowledge of the wide variety of garden plants that grow well in Central Iowa. Covering nearly 500 plants, these 16 classes are spread across several years. Each class focuses on identification, cultural requirements, and the use of the plants in gardens and the broader landscape.

"Saturn: Contemporary Arrangements" - Saturn's rings inspire this artistic, structural design which offers the perfect look to satisfy a creative personality or those that like a touch of adventure. Learn the tips and skills used by professionals and create your own one-of-a-kind floral designs. All 2014 class topics were designed on a planetary theme.

This workshop runs for four weeks on Thursdays, July 17, July 24, July 31, and August 7 Whether you are a budding naturalist, artist, or writer, Reiman Gardens is the ideal setting to observe & record pollinating insects, tropical butterflies, & native flora & fauna. Yvonne Brune of Creative Department will lead you through different garden areas exploring techniques to capture your experiences in nature through writing or sketching. Ages 10+

Training to Become a Sentinel Plant Network First Detector
Reiman Gardens' staff will take you through the initial steps to become a certified First Detector, in the ever-increasing effort to detect and diagnose "high-consequence" plant pests and pathogens, such as the emerald ash borer and the Asian long-horned beetle. Preregistration is highly encouraged. Free resource pack for the first 30 to register.

Workshop: Make an Alien Plant
Join 2014 Alien Invasion artists Pam Dennis & Ryk Weiss for a workshop to create an alien plant to grow in a dark corner of your house or garden. Use willow, tooled metal, paper pulp, screen & a variety of repurposed objects. Participants need to bring sharp pruning shears, a small hammer, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, & small found objects. Willow, nails, screen, paper pulp & some found objects will be provided for participants to share.
