Due to Hurricane Sandy and associated travel challenges, Larry Nowlan's lecture and reception for Sunday, Nov. 4, is canceled.
Performance: Candide
Candide is an innocent young man who lives in a beautiful castle and believes he is living in the best world possible and that whatever happens is for the best. When he is banished and forced to travel through the world, he discovers that he may have been mistaken. Based on the novel by Voltaire and with music by Leonard Bernstein, "Candide" is loaded with political and social satire and with music that that is effervescent and joyous.
Argentine Tango Practica
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4- 5pm moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for dancing better. From 5 - 7pm the dance floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie and working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.
Documentary & Discussion: The Real Dirt on Farmer John
The Real Dirt on Farmer John follows the life of John Peterson, owner and operator of AngelicOrganics, one of the largest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms in the United States. Peterson took over the family farm as a young man in the1960s and slowly turned it into an experiment of art and agriculture. Farmer John Peterson will provide introductory remarks and join a discussion following the 80-min. film. AgArts Film Festival

Adaptive Interface: Light, Space and Comfort exhibition
This week-long exhibition will highlight climate change adaptation projects students developed during a five-week Berlin Summer Academy, a joint program offered by the College of Design and ars Berlin, a study-abroad program at Beuth University Berlin. The show will open with a reception and refreshments at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the Lightfoot Forum.
Exhibition reception
"Adaptive Interface: Light, Space and Comfort" features the work of eight ISU architecture students who studied in Germany. Refreshments will be served.
Documentary & Discussion: Train to Nowhere: Inside an Immigrant Death Investigation
In October 2002, the badly decomposed bodies of 11 undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Central America were found sealed inside a freight car in rural Denison, Iowa. The documentary "Train to Nowhere" offers an in-depth look at the investigation and those involved. Filmmaker Colleen Krantz is a graduate of Iowa State and former Des Moines Register reporter. Rogue Valley is comprised of five talented musicians from Minneapolis, MN. Led by popular singer/songwriter Chris Koza, the band has shown incredible ambition by writing, recording, and releasing four albums all within the span of one year. Known for their incredible live concerts, Rogue Valley has shared the stage with notable acts such as Spoon, Weezer, Andrew Bird, Justin Vernon, and many others.

Explore the unfamiliar, exotic, bizarre and nostalgic objects that are part of Iowa State University's academic land-grant heritage in the exhibition Cabinet of Curiosities.
