ISU Jazz I, directed by James Bovinette ISU Jazz II, directed by Michael Giles

Jazz I will open with Dizzy Gillespie's Con Alma, featuring Brendan Cunningham, piano; Mark Lukasiewicz, tenor saxophone; and Jack Kohn, trumpet. The band will also feature Gertrud's Bounce, a tune by pianist Richie Powell, and made famous by the Cliffored Brown quartet; Secret Love, that will feature the band's trombone section; and the bands closing number will be Catch Me If You Can. Catch Me If You Can is a slight departure from a lot of the standard jazz repertoire in that is has of a sub-plot. Interested… come check out the concert on Oct. 12 when the band will continue its tradition of featuring great soloist and hard-hitting rhythm sections.

Jazz II, under the tutelage of Mike Giles, will play exciting versions of tunes from the jazz songbook. Honeysuckle Rose and Hard Hearted Hannah are both vocal chestnuts. A spontaneous and playful twist on the Duke Ellington classic C Jam Blues is programmed alongside an interesting arrangement of Gold Mine by the breakout vocal jazz group Take Six.
