Iowa State University Lecturer in Percussion and International Soloist, Matthew Coley, and Danish International Percussion Artist, Ronni Kot Wenzell, continue their 2011 collaboration in a joint concert.

ISU Lecturer in Percussion and International Soloist, Matthew Coley, and Danish International Percussion Artist, Ronni Kot Wenzell, will continue their 2011 collaboration led by the Danish Publishing House, Edition Svitzer, with the US portion of their touring between November 1-14. Coley and Wenzell were originally brought together by promoter and publisher, Johan Svitzer, to premiere four new pieces of music throughout Denmark and Sweden in August of 2011. Coley furthered the collaboration by planning a US tour that would bring Wenzell to ISU as a guest artist, present the superior quality of Edition Svitzer to more American musicians, and culminate with a recording session of the new music for a promotional CD. The Alvin Edgar Fund for the Performing Arts at Iowa State University has made a good portion of Wenzell's visit to the US possible.

The Danish Arts Council, Edition Svitzer, and other European donors and grants provide funding to commission Andy Pape from Denmark, Marcin Blazewicz from Poland, and Pius Cheung from China/America to write new music for the duo. Coley then commissioned a long time collaborator and New York composer, Bjorn Berkhout, to write a duo for the US portion of the touring. This piece, called "Catch Your Breath", was also added to the program to provide a direct connection with the current artist that is exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis, David Noonan. The duo will perform at CAM on Saturday, 11/5 at 2pm.

Coley has also been working tirelessly to release his second solo album at the start of this tour. SOUVENIRS will release November 1 and four out of the seven tracks on it are published by Edition Svitzer. Notably, there are two works on the CD composed by Coley, as well as tracks featuring him on the hammer dulcimer. Other composers included on SOUVENIRS are Piazzolla, Beethoven, Galay, Brostrom, White, and Blazewicz.

Wenzell will present a master class for the percussionists at Iowa State University, and the duo will do master classes at Southeast Missouri State University and Millikin University while on tour. Johan Svitzer will be on tour with the duo and present new publications from Edition Svitzer to the music schools. Before returning to Iowa to begin recording the promotional CD (11/13-14), the tour will stop at the Percussion Arts Society International Convention (11/9-12) in Indianapolis, IN. Edition Svitzer will exhibit there, and the duo will perform a "Meet and Greet" at the Marimba One (a sponsor company) booth on Friday, 11/11 at 2pm in the exhibit hall. The well-known Danish composer, Andy Pape will join the duo and Svitzer back in Ames, IA for the recording sessions.
