Paint Your Own Pottery: Sgraffito Tiles
Join us for a fun exploration of techniques in "painting" bisque. Sgraffito is derived from the Italian word graffiare or "to scratch." Apply two colors of glaze and scratch designs or imagery through the top layer. Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend plus the cost of the bisque you select. Pottery will be fired within a week for you to pick up. Pre-registration with payment not required, but reservations are recommended.
Hoop Earrings
Hammer copper tubing into hoop earrings, and experiment with patina techniques for varied finishes. Add silver ear wires and leave class with 3 new pairs of earrings to add to your jewelry box.

Great Plants for Iowa Series: Medium & Large Deciduous Shrubs
This series will allow participants to develop knowledge of the wide variety of garden plants that grow well in Central Iowa. Covering nearly 500 plants, these 16 classes are spread across several years. Each class focuses on identification, cultural requirements, and the use of the plants in gardens and the broader landscape.
Natural Dyes Class
Use naturally derived dyes for yarn and roving for your next fibers project. Focus on the process of dyeing with indigo. Participants can choose two skeins of lace (880 yards), fingering (sock) (462 yards), or worsted weight yarn (220 yards). Participants may also bring wool, silk or other protein fiber to experiment with for spinning or other projects. Extra skeins will be available for purchase. Wear old clothes (apron/gloves provided.)

Explore Design! Workshop: Space Representation and the Design of Spaces
This one-day workshop for middle and high school students offers hands-on projects to promote creativity, innovative thinking and design skills. Participants will learn to draw the built environment and understand the principles of form and construction that inform architectural design.
Kids' Story Time
Each session features a theme with two or three books read aloud followed by a related craft or activity. The books, crafts and activities are intended for children ages two to seven years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Design Innovation Workshop: Art, Architecture and Environments
This workshop for middle and high school students will cover a basic introduction to mapping and architectural design. Participants will explore their natural environment and learn how to map and understand space. Concepts of painting and drawing also will be explored. The workshop continues June 19-20.

Each month's topic features a mini-tour, interesting facts, and the chance to see many things not typically open to the public. Intermediate Photography Class
Take your photography to the next level with this four-part class. Building on concepts from Beginner Photography with practical application and further exploration of the tools, mechanics, and process, take creative control of your photographs. Emphasis will be on improving familiarity with manual control of aperture, shutter, lighting and flash. You will need to bring your DSLR camera and a sturdy tripod to class.
