Farewell reception for Ken Kerns, associate director of environmental health and safety. There will be a brief program at 3 p.m. Kerns will be assistant vice president for emergency response and environmental health and safety at Tulane University, New Orleans.
Open House: Iowa 4-H Center
The public is invited to an open house to see the results of "Extreme Cabin Makeover" and the fun opportunities for campers this summer. Enjoy a picnic dinner, take a wagon tour of camp, tour cabins and the day camp lodge and meet camp staff.

Listening session: ISU central services for research
The purpose is to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of services that are provided to support the research enterprise in order to build an infrastructure that can effectively manage its growth. Input from faculty and staff is sought. The conveners of the session are Vice President for Research and Economic Development Sharron Quisenberry and Associate Vice President for Business and Finance Pam Cain.

Dairy Month Celebration: ISU Dairy Farm
The event includes tours of the milking parlor, barns and a discovery center for children. Free samples of milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream will be served by Iowa's dairy processors.

Somerville, ISU's dean of students since 2007, will become vice president for student affairs at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in late July.

Information session: Veterinary Medicine P-CAL
The Professional Communication Assessment and Learning program for third-year veterinary students seeks volunteers to play the role of client and pet owner in a simulated clinical experience. This session will summarize the program and training for prospective "clients." To attend, contact Shelly Waller by June 24.

Betts is a professor of opthalmology in the department of veterinary clinical sciences and the Lloyd Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He has served on the ISU faculty for more than 35 years.
