FAC: Friday at the Center

Performance: Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos
A fund-raiser for the Ames Foundation's ongoing beautification projects in Ames. The Deuces Wild show offers comedy, audience participation and a mix of parodies and music that includes rock, country, rap and show tunes. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Watercolors in the Garden: The figure in the landscape
Join Jo Myers-Walker of the Left Bank Studio in Gilbert, Iowa as she teaches a series of ten classes on watercolors while being inspired by the surrounding gardens. Classes will focus on the figure in the landscape taking inspiration from tree and bonsai. Participants will get to showcase their art during the Bonsai Show on Saturday, October 8th. All skill levels welcome.

This Cyclone Central is sponsored by the Iowa State University Book Store. The Cafe will provide box meals at a cost of $12 for ISUAA members and $17 for non-members. Please order by Wednesday, September 7. Olde Main Brewing Company will have beverages (beer, wint, soda, and water) available for puchase in Cy's Lounge on the 2nd floor of the Alumni Center. ISU merchandise is also available for purchase.

9/11 Commemorative Ceremony
Student representatives of ISU College Republicans, ISU Democrats and the Government of the Student Body planned this event, on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. Scheduled guests include war veterans, ISU students, a local fire chief and VP for student affairs Tom Hill, who will share thoughts on the attacks and their lasting effect. Concludes with a candle-lit vigil and walk.

Artist-in-residence Sarah Grant of Sticks, Inc.
September 14th through the 16th principal artist and founder of Sticks, Inc. Sarah Grant will create an installation within the atrium of Horticulture Hall on the Iowa State University campus. Grant will take up residency to draw within the space where her work will be installed as part of the Horticulture Teaching and Research Greenhouse Complex construction project.

Author Signing with Beth Bednar
Beth Bednar has a goal and that is to find what happened to Jodi Huisentruit. It has been 16 years since her disappearance and Bednar just released a new book about the case called Dead Air: The Disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit. She writes about lost evidence, possible suspects she names and what she thinks led to the disappearance of Jodi.

Groundbreaking: Biorenewables Complex, phase II
Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad will be the the featured speaker at the groundbreaking ceremony for Virgil B. Elings Hall and the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) Building No. 2. President Gregory Geoffroy and other dignitaries also will make presentations. A special gift announcement will be made at the groundbreaking ceremonies.
