Exhibit opening: Contemplate Japan
Drawn from permanent and loaned collections, this exhibition of Japanese woodblock prints, bamboo baskets, ikebana floral arrangements, kimono, ceramics, and contemporary sculpture explores and illuminates the artistic and cultural developments emanating from Japan for the last two centuries, which greatly influenced the arts in the West.
Carillon Concert: Let Freedom Ring
A carillon concert in honor of Dr. King. Tin-Shi Tam, carillonneur. Part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Series.
Walk-in Craft: Fired Ink Art
Create swirls and blurs of vibrant color on glass using alcohol inks and a little bit of fire. We will seal the design and slip it into an 8 x 10 frame for an instant masterpiece!
Lecture: Arts Letters & Numbers, Living Still Life
David Gersten, director of interdisciplinary learning at the Cooper Union and founding director of the Arts Letters & Numbers nonprofit arts and education organization, will speak about his work. He is leading the OPN Masterclass for architecture students Jan. 13-17.

The 55th Annual ISU Madrigal Dinner is presented by the department of music and theatre. As guests dine by the illumination of candlelight, they will be royally entertained by the Iowa State Singers, Musica Antiqua, Shy of a Dozen and Orchesis II dancers. Social hour precedes the 6:30 p.m. dinner.
The Color Purple
Based on the Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and the Warner Bros./Amblin Entertainment motion picture, the Tony® Award-winning Broadway revival of The Color Purple is adapted for the stage by Tony® and Pulitzer Prize-winning Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephens Bray. A pre-show dinner will also be available for this performance.

Performances by singer-songwriters Chad Elliott and Ryne Doughty. Elliott blends folk roots, swampy blues and soulful writing to deliver an original Americana sound. Doughty's stripped down, earthy sound is directly influenced by the small, rural town where he was born and raised.

Wheel Pottery Class
Get your hands dirty and make beautiful things! Start with centering clay and pulling cylinders, the building blocks to throwing on the wheel. Move on to forming bowls, mugs, vases and plates, and learn handle-pulling, glazing and finishing techniques. Open to beginners as well as those with experience who would like to improve their skills.
Open Mic Night
Open Mic Night gives students the chance to show off their talents to fellow peers. Many perform as musicians, comedians, and poets. Enjoy a night full of talented Iowa State Students. (Sign Up starts at 7:30 p.m. until all spots are filled)
