Comics: An Art Form in Transition
Illustrator Scott McCloud is known for his print and web comics, including Google Chrome. His other creations include the 24-Hour Comic, The Morning Improv, and the 1980s series ZOT. He is equally recognized for his theoretical work on how comics function as form of visual communication, including his book Understanding Comics. The Annual Goldtrap Lecture.

Planetarium shows will start at 7 pm and 7:45 pm. Free tickets for the shows will be available at the door starting at 6:30 pm. The shows are suitable for all ages, and are followed by a star-gazing session (weather permitting).

GIS Seminar: Descriptive Modeling of Historic Tree Distribution in Polk and Dallas Counties
"GIS Descriptive Modeling of Historic Trees in Polk and Dallas Counties, Iowa," Paul Anderson, ISU landscape architecture and agronomy, and Jonathan Nelsen, ISU landscape architecture. They have examined the spatial pattern of tree distribution recorded in U.S. General Land office surveys from 1832-1859 and used GIS descriptive modeling to understand the "fire shadow" effect of rivers and associated steep slopes on spatial distribution of trees.
