The Once and Future Neighborhood: Prospects for Walkable Diversity
Fostering neighborhoods that are both walkable and socially and economically diverse has been a long-standing goal of urban planners. What is the current status of this goal, and how far off are we from achieving walkable diversity for an American public that is no longer enamored with car-based suburbia? Emily Talen, a professor of urban planning and sustainability scientist at Arizona State University, will address this and related questions.

Doris Bergen is a Distinguished Professor of Educational Psychology Emerita at Miami University in Ohio. Her work focuses on learning and human development, with a special focus on how technology-enhanced toys affect play, adult memories of childhood play, and the development of humor, especially in gifted children.
Lecture: Gay Conversion Therapy
Samuel (Sam) Brinton will speak about his first-hand experiences with conversion therapy and championing for state legislation to prohibit treatments of this kind. A bill of this sort has passed in the Iowa Senate but has yet to become law. Conversion therapy is a range of treatments attempting to change an individual's sexual orientation. It can include electroshock therapy along with other forms of physical and mental abuse.
