Lucid: Artist Talk with Louise Fisher
Iowa-based interdisciplinary artist Louise Fisher works in the expanded field of print, using methods of layering, impressing and repetition for their literal and visual enactment of time and the body. She will give a public talk in conjunction with "Lucid," a solo exhibition of her work on display in the College of Design's Gallery 181.
Lecture: What Responsibility Do Architects Have to Create a More Just World?
Lori Brown is a professor of architecture at Syracuse University and cofounder of ArchiteXX, a group working to raise awareness of women in architecture, create support and mentorship networks and take design actions to broaden the exposure of architecture in the world. She focuses on relationships between architecture and social justice issues with particular emphasis on gender and its impact on spatial relationships.

Retirement reception: John Flickinger
John Flickinger, budget officer for ISU Extension and Outreach, is retiring from Iowa State on Feb. 7 after 27 years of service. He started with the university in 1987 and began working in extension in 1993. A short presentation will begin at 3:15 p.m.

Get your hands dirty and make beautiful things! Start with centering clay and pulling cylinders, the building blocks to throwing on the wheel. Move on to forming bowls, mugs, vases and plates, and learn handle-pulling, glazing and finishing techniques. Paper Marbling + Hand Lettering Workshop
Learn how to marble paper with instructor Rhonda Scott using the Suminagashi method. You'll be able to make a few papers, and then while they dry, you will walk through step-by-step process to learn the basics of hand-lettering with instructor Kristin Erdman. Bring everything together by lettering phrases on your marbled paper, adding some glittery details, and framing two 4" x 6" works of art. Extra paper can be taken home for future projects.
