Performance: "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail"
In 1846, Henry David Thoreau spent the night in jail for refusing to pay his taxes since his money might be used to support slavery or the Mexican-American War. This famous act of civil disobedience resulted in this script, a play about ideas, political and personal, and about each person's responsibility to ensure independence and democracy. ISU ADVANCE workshop: 2008 Faculty Satisfaction Survey
ISU ADVANCE research team members Sandra Gahn and Jason Pontius will discuss the results of the AAUDE faculty satisfaction survey administered last year at ISU. Their presentation will include an overview of general findings and discussion of areas specific to ADVANCE goals, such as department cultures and values, work/life policies, differences expressed by gender, and areas of concern for STEM faculty. There also will be time for questions.

"Gender and Race after the 2008 Campaign," Mary Frances Berry, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She previously was a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, serving as chair from 1993-2004. Live Healthy Iowa 50-Day Celebration
ISU is living healthy, leading Iowa and UNI with the most Live Healthy Iowa participants (849). ISU alone has lost 1,295 pounds in 50 days. To celebrate these achievements, Wellness Works students are planning a Live Healthy Iowa 50-Day Celebration. The event features a health fair, fitness assessments, team photos, a success-sharing session and refreshments. A 30-minute group fitness walk begins at 12:10 p.m.

Andrew Robinson is currently promoting his second film April Showers, based on the events that occurred during the Columbine shootings. He attended Columbine High School and graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and has worked as an art director for various entertainment design firms.
