Campus Conversation: Balancing Freedom of Expression and Diversity
The 2018 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Convocation will be a discussion about balancing First Amendment rights with the concerns of diverse populations on university campuses. Participants include Howard Gillman, chancellor of the University of California, Irvine, and Mariah Watson, and former president of the University of California, Davis, student government.

Drawing on his background as both a scholar and an elected official, Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton, professor emeritus of urban and regional planning at the University of Iowa, will share the story of acting as mayor for the past 24-plus months and the challenge of responding deftly to unexpected events.
