Krumm served as juror for the 42nd Annual National Clay, Fiber, Paper, Glass, Metal, Wood Juried Exhibition at the Octagon Center for the Arts in Ames. She will visit the ISU College of Design on Jan. 29, giving a demonstration and speaking with students in the textiles studio (085 Design) from 1 to 3 p.m., and a public presentation in Kocimski Auditorium (101 Design) from 3 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Krumm's work involves the investigation and juxtaposition of historically gender-specific techniques, such as crochet and blacksmithing, to question and comment on identity, duality, relationships and beauty. The resulting sculptures are an exploration of these traditional processes, integrated with found industrial objects and her longstanding engagement with nature and ecological practice. In these pieces, she confronts issues of balance and power, and investigates how textile constructions can be incorporated with and influence our connections to space, place and time.

Krumm received a BFA degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts and an MFA from Vermont College. She currently is an assistant professor in the fiber department at the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI). From 2006 to 2008, she was a visiting assistant professor of art and design at North Carolina State University, and previously served as a lecturer at the KCAI from 2003 to 2006. Since 1991 she has taught numerous workshops at venues such as Haystack, the Penland School, Arrowmont and Anderson Ranch. Krumm has also been a guest artist and lecturer at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, the Memphis College of Art, California College of the Arts, the University of California at Santa Cruz and the University of Montana in Missoula.

Her work has been featured in numerous museum exhibitions nationally and internationally, including the Central Museum of Textiles, Poland; Museum of Decorative Arts, Czech Republic; Odder Museum, Denmark; Museum of Art and Design, New York; Denver Art Museum; and Museum of Fine Art, Santa Fe, N.M.

The opening reception and awards for the 42nd Annual National Clay, Fiber, Paper, Glass, Metal, Wood Juried Exhibition will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Octagon Center for the Arts, 427 Douglas Ave., Ames. The work of several ISU faculty members, current students and alumni is a part of the show.
