Theatre IV presents The Little Red Hen as part of the Martha-Ellen Tye Performing Arts Institute Youth Matinee Series.

"Who will help me plant the seed?" asks the plucky red hen as she begins the process of making a loaf of her delicious bread. "Not us," say the sheep, the cow, the horse, and the pig. They all have better things to do. But "a hen's gotta do what a hen's gotta do," and so our crimson heroine perseveres until her work is done. The tricks of a conniving fox come up against the hen's common sense to add adventure and a sound moral lesson to this classic feel-good, foot-stompin' country musical.

Children will enjoy the rhythms of the story as their read-aloud favorite characters come to life on stage. As a warm up to the main performance and to prepare everyone for what's to come, some audience members will be invited to the stage to help act out a fun story. This show features lots of audience participation.

Recommended for grades PreK-4.
