This presentation focuses on how ISRT policy shapes the debate and experiences of undocumented immigrant students in higher education.
Some states have enacted in-state resident tuition (ISRT) policies to help address financial discrimination against undocumented students. Meanwhile, other states have enacted anti-immigrant legislation that prevents undocumented students from accessing higher education. Still, other states remain politically ambivalent and leave institutions to autonomously develop practices related to undocumented immigrant students.
Research related to undocumented students in higher education thus far has focused on economic analyses of ISRT policies as well as the lived experiences of undocumented students seeking college educations.
Research has not engaged directly with policy discourses, which shape how undocumented students' and their experiences can be understood by policy makers, researchers and practitioners.
