Veterans and military families are invited to "Under the Middle Eastern Sky" in celebration of Veteran's Day. The ISU chapter of Student Veterans of America and Operation: Military Kids are sponsoring the family-focused event, which is free for veterans, student veterans and military families.

Veterans and military families are invited to collect their passports and explore the night skies over Afghanistan in the Science Center of Iowa's portable planetarium. ISU's Insect Zoo is bringing a Middle East live insect collection for a hands-on experience. Other passport stops along the route include creating a Wall of Honor for those in service past and present, cultural crafts, learning to write Arabic letters, story time featuring books with a military kid focus, and using the Mobile Tech Lab to connect to military family members. In addition, food and music from the Middle East will be part of the experience.

Participants are encouraged to bring school supplies that will be sent to the 734th Agri-Business Development Team (Dirt Warriors) for distribution to Afghan children.

The first 30 military kids who pick up their passports will receive a free book and Operation: Military Kids string bag. Drawings for additional books will be held. Military One Source and Operation: Military Kids will have resource tables set up with free resources to support military kids and families.
