Short program dedicating a memorial sculpture in honor of Paula Cowgill Gmelch, late wife of Walter Gmelch, who was dean of the ISU College of Education (now part of Human Sciences) from 1998 to 2004. The sculpture was designed, produced and installed by Ingrid Lilligren, ISU professor of integrated studio arts.

The Iowa State University College of Human Sciences will dedicate a memorial sculpture in honor of Paula Cowgill Gmelch at 9 a.m. Friday, April 15, in the Lagomarcino Hall courtyard. Paula Gmelch is the late wife of Walter Gmelch, who was dean of the ISU College of Education (now part of Human Sciences) from 1998 to 2004. She served as a program coordinator for the university's "Strengthening Families to Become the Best" campaign as well as the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Leadership Academy.

The sculpture was designed, produced and installed by Ingrid Lilligren, ISU professor of integrated studio arts. It features a stack of Paula Gmelch's favorite books with a basin at the top. The title of the piece, "She Was The Best Listener," as well as the imagery Lilligren used in the design, came directly from the eulogy written by the Gmelches' son, Ben. The dedication will be followed by light refreshments at the Brunnier Art Museum. The public is invited to attend.
