Craig Lang of Brooklyn, Iowa, is a long-time Iowa farm and business leader, and is currently president of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa. He was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2007, and he was elected its 17th president in 2011. Mr. Lang is also president and CEO of The Prairie Strategy Group, a company engaged in identifying and solving complex challenges in food production, policy and logistics. He is a 1973 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in dairy science, and he farms in partnership with his father and brother and runs a large dairy operation.
Mr. Lang was one of the longest serving leaders of both the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF), where he served as president from 2001 through 2011, and the FBL Financial Group, where he served as chairman of the board. He also served as chair of the Iowa Chronic Care Consortium, was the lead director on the Iowa Telecom Board, and director of the GROWMARK, Inc., board. In addition, Mr. Lang served as chair of the Grow Iowa Values Fund and vice chair of the Iowa Economic Development Board under former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack.
Mr. Lang's wife, Mary, is a registered nurse and graduate of the University of Iowa. They have four children. Jessica and Chase both graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and their two youngest sons, Dane and Cade, are graduates of the University of Northern Iowa and Kirkwood community college, respectively, and have joined the family farm operation, representing the sixth generation of the family to do so. The Langs are active in their local church and community activities.
