When a great African king desires a wife, only the most worthy and beautiful maidens in the land are invited to meet him and both Mufaro's daughters receive an invitation. Mufaro's pride and joy, his two daughters have very different dispositions - Manyara, believing herself better and prettier than her sister, sets out alone so she can be presented to the King first. Sweet and kind Nyasha dutifully follows as originally planned. Along the way the two girls encounter mysterious situations that test their courage, kindness and strength of spirit.
