Anton Chekhov is considered one of the greatest short-story writers in the world. This new adaptation of severa l of his stories explores the everyday lives of 19th century Russians. Chekhov believed the role of an artist was to ask questions, not to answer them. He makes no judgment as to the behavior of his characters, and in so doing, reveals the depths of human joy, confusion, dissatisfaction, and sorrow.
