"Get X-Cited About Cited Reference Searching," with ISU librarians Jeff Kushkowski and Lorrie Pellack. This workshop will cover all disciplines but the presentation, hands-on practice, and discussions will focus on the subject areas suggested by the attendees. Registration is required through AccessPlus. All faculty, staff and grad students are welcome to attend.

Cited Reference Searching is simply the ability to search
for a specifi c citation in the list of references (or footnotes) found in journal articles or books. Cited reference searching is useful for validating the impact of your research (e.g., promotion and tenure reviews), supplementing literature reviews and grant applications, and looking for related articles on your topic.

In the past, the main way to find this information was through citation indexes (e.g., Social Sciences Citation Index or Web of Science). Many new tools have become available in recent years. Come on in and learn how to use Web of Science, Google Scholar and a number of other library databases to fi nd citations to a specific publication(s).

This workshop will cover all disciplines but the presentation, hands-on practice, and discussions will focus on the subject areas suggested by the attendees. Bring some sample articles or author names that you want to search for with during the hands-on sessions. Ample time will be provided for attendees to search various databases and ask questions related to their own subject areas/interests.
