Don't miss the free admission, free seed packets, and free educational programs or tours during the Fourth Annual National Public Gardens Day on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the five gardens of central Iowa! Participating gardens include Better Homes & Gardens Test Garden, Brenton Arboretum, Des Moines Botanical Center, Iowa Arboretum and Reiman Gardens. Visit one, two or all five on National Public Gardens Day.

The gardens of central Iowa are an asset to all Iowans providing education, culture, fun and beauty. National Public Gardens Day is a national day of celebration that invites communities to explore the beauty of their local green spaces while raising awareness of the important role public gardens play in promoting conservation, education and environmental preservation. A partnership between the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) and irrigation product and service provider, Rain Bird, the 2012 National Public Gardens Day will showcase the contributions of public gardens with special events at many of the more than 500 North American public gardens.

Each garden who charges admission will participate in the Better Homes & Gardens free admission program on Friday, May 11, 2012. Visitors to BHG.com will be directed to download a voucher for free admission into any participating public garden on National Public Gardens Day.

At each central Iowa garden you visit, the public will receive a different salad green seed packet to start your own edible garden. The more gardens you visit, the more full and delicious your edible garden will be. Salad greens are easy to grow in beds, containers, pots or window boxes and are a healthy addition to any garden.

While visiting the gardens of central Iowa on National Public Gardens Day check out the free education programs, guided tours, and other great activities planned for that day.
