"Perennials for Sun - the Basics" with instructor Aaron Steil - With so many wonderful perennials available to gardeners, we had to split this class into two! Learn more about the basic perennials well-suited for that sunny spot in your central Iowa landscape.
Great Plants for Iowa series will allow participants to develop knowledge of the wide variety of garden plants that grow well in Central Iowa. Covering nearly 500 plants, these 16 classes are spread across several years. Each class focuses on identification, cultural requirements, and the use of the plants in gardens and the broader landscape. These classes are perfect for avid amateur gardeners and plant enthusiasts, aspiring horticulture professionals, horticulturists, garden designers, landscape architects seeking professional development, and Master Gardeners looking for continuing education credits. There are no prerequisites and you are welcome to take one or all the classes each year.
2012 focus: shade trees, vines, small and medium shrubs, and the basics on perennials for sun
2013 focus: conifers, perennials for shade, the basics on annuals, and houseplants
2014 focus: medium and large shrubs, beyond the basics on perennials for sun, ornamental grasses, and tropicals for inside and out
2015 focus: small trees, herbaceous groundcovers, beyond the basics of annuals, spring and summer bulbs
Other 2012 class dates include June 11 "Shade Trees", June 25 "Vines", and July 9 "Small and Medium Shrubs" all from 6:00 to 8:30.
