Jose Colucci-Rios is a professor in the chemical engineering department at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. Finalists will describe their vision for the Iowa Energy Center and respond to questions.

Colucci-Rios' research area at UPRM is sustainability with an energy focus, including fuel cells, biomass fractionation, auto thermal reforming, solar detoxification and biodiesel synthesis and commercialization.

He led the chemical engineering department's Sloan Foundation Undergraduate Feeder program (1996-2011) and helped establish a doctoral program in chemical engineering at the University of Puerto Rico. He has been a department director, technology transfer official and associate dean of engineering, and currently serves as director of the UPRM Center for Island, Maritime and Extreme Environment Security.

Before joining the UPRM faculty, he was a scientist, business analyst and market manager at Union Carbide.

Colucci-Rios has a B.S. from the University of Puerto Rico and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, both in chemical engineering.
