Since his work on the genocide of Mongolian Buddhist lamas in 1998, Michael Jerryson has examined the role of Buddhist traditions in conflicts. In many ways, Buddhist-inspired violence may seem like an oxymoron, yet there is a robust history of Buddhist revolts, just-war theory and violence in Asia. Jerryson is an assistant professor of religious studies at Eckerd College and earned his PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is coeditor of the Oxford Handbook of Religion and Violence and Buddhist Warfare.
