From the first novel about contemporary Afghanistan to be written in English, performance is a story of guilt and redemption, brutality and kindness, sin and forgiveness.

The Kite Runner portrays the relationship of two boys, a privileged Pashtun and a Hazara servant -- one rich, one poor; one flawed, the other pure. The American Place Theatre's Literature to Life ® program brings books to life -- giving voice to words and inspiring young people to find their own voices. Utilizing original Afghani music, audiences are taken on a heartbreaking journey of friendship and betrayal in a society of severe class division against a backdrop of 1970s Afghanistan. Company led pre-show and post-show discussions will explore themes including friendship, redemption, Afghani history and culture and class systems.
