Tsontakis is the recipient of the two richest prizes awarded in all of classical music: the international Grawemeyer Award in 2005 (for his Second Violin Concerto), and the 2007 Charles Ives Living, awarded every three years by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He has been twice nominated for a Grammy for best classical composition.
Tsontakis is the distinguished composer-in-residence at Bard College Conservatory of Music, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, and the longtime composer-in-residence with the Aspen Music Festival, Colorado. His music is performed by some of the most prestigious ensembles in America and the world.
