Treatments have been developed recently for a subset of lysosomal storage diseases, and early detection provides a path for better treatment. We have developed a panel of enzyme activity assays using tandem mass spectrometry that are being used for newborn screening of lysosomal storage diseases. The development of these assays from the research lab to the clinic will be discussed.
