"More than Prairie: Garden Design." Join Reiman Gardens' Director Ed Lyon for a 6-week series that augments his book by the same title released this May. Each presentation addresses practical gardening applicable to novice and experienced gardeners alike.

This is a six week lecture series with a different topic each time. You can attend one or all six classes. Other class dates include, October 14, October 21, October 28, November 11 and November 18.

The goal of the talks and book is to present botany, horticulture and plant science in gardener terminology, simplifying complex information and offering useful advice based on the most current research. The first 90 minutes will be presentation, with the final 30 minutes open for questions specific to participants' own situations and experiences. Register for the series to receive a discount, as well as a free copy of Ed Lyon's accompanying book, Growing the Midwest Garden; or sign up for individual classes to suit your interests.

Many people have a preconceived idea that Midwestern gardening is prairie based. Even though the prairie is crucial to this region, Midwestern gardening is about acknowledging all Midwest conditions. Design is an important consideration for gardeners and transcends locality; no gardener should feel constrained in creativity by their specific location. We will discuss design elements that guide the aesthetic and talk about how to use garden accessories and augment your style. Express yourself!

Preregistration with prepayment is required by Wednesday, October 28. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for the general public. Iowa State University students pay 15% off the member price.
