Atlanta-based Waka Flocka Flame, or simply Waka Flocka, rose to prominence in 2009 with the release of his singles "O Let's Do It," "Hard in da Paint," and "No Hands," the latter of which peaked at number 13 on the US Billboard Hot 100. His critically acclaimed debut album, Flockaveli, was released in 2010 and was followed by his 2012 album Triple F Life: Friends, Fans & Family, which included the single "Round of Applause" featuring fellow rapper Drake.
Born Juaquin James Malphurs, Waka originally gained fame as rapper Gucci Mane's protégé and flagship artist for the 1017 Brick Squad record label. Waka's first mixtape Salute Me or Shoot Me quickly gained popularity and led to 2010's Flockaveli, which debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200 and peaked at number two on the US Top Rap Albums. He released a collaborative album entitled Ferrari Boyz with Gucci Mane in 2011, before dropping Triple F Life: Friends, Fans & Family the following year.
Waka additionally appeared in the third season of the VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, alongside his wife Tammy Rivera. A VH1 spinoff series, entitled Meet The Flockas, was announced in 2014, but hasn't gone to production.
Waka has worked with many of hip-hop's mainstream elite including T.I., Drake, Yo Gotti, Future, Ne-Yo, Lil Wayne and many more. His highly anticipated third album, Flockaveli 2, is awaiting release.
