About the Portrait Subject
Dave Miller (B.S. '75 electrical engineering), retired Director of Facilities Planning and Management. During Dave's tenure as Director of Utility Services, he was instrumental in development of the Utility Enterprise, a very successful business model that allows methodical planning and development of utility systems to support campus growth. Dave transitioned from utilities into increasing roles for Facilities Planning and Management. Dave became Associate Vice President in 2010 with responsibilities for planning, design, construction, and maintenance of all campus facilities and grounds. In this role, Dave led many initiatives to improve the campus such as sustainability, including the campus wind turbine and solar panels, an increased emphasis to address the deferred maintenance needs, campus beautification, and construction of the Iowa State University wall north of the Memorial Union.
