About Dr. Negreros
As a Silviculturist my professional goal is to develop strategies for sustainable forest management that will improve the quality of life of people and protect the environment for future generations. To achieve that goal, I conduct research and work with individuals and organizations that support my goal. Since 1986, I have been involved on research projects on the silviculture of forests managed by rural communities in Mexico and Guatemala. I have been a consultant for ICRAF, CIFOR, Smart Wood, and Programme for Belize. I have collaborated with a number of national and international research and donating institutions (ICRAF, CIFOR, CATIE, INIFAP, IUFRO, Purdue University, Iowa State University, Rockefeller, WWF, International American Foundation, and International University of Florida). Since 2005 I work at the Universidad Veracruzana, involved in diverse community forestry projects in the four Mexican states of Quintana Roo, Veracruz, Puebla and Tlaxcala, collaborating with several local organizations and research groups.
About Dr. Mize
Presently, I am developing computer software for analyzing forest inventory data and simulating growth of managed and unmanaged stands for the USA. Additionally, I have been designing and analyzing forestry research in Mexico. I am working on a part time basis as I retired from Iowa State University in 2007. Before then, I was a forestry professor for 30 years doing research and teaching in forest biometry at Iowa State University. My research focused on modeling agricultural crop yield in a field sheltered by a windbreak. I did additional research in a variety of forest biometry related projects and have wide experience in design and analysis of natural resource related research, from monoclonal antibodies to field studies with 900 acre experimental units.
