Have you ever wondered who owns Iowa farmland? Have you ever thought if you should invest in Iowa farmland? Have you ever wanted to know how Iowa farmland is operated? Iowa's richest asset is its 30 million crop acres of farmland that produces the most corn and the 2nd most soybeans of any state in the entire United States of America. As a leader and a lender who is employed by one of the largest agricultural lenders in Iowa, Farm Credit Services of America, I would like to share many facts and facets of our Iowa farmland landscape. We will talk about the factors that drive investors and owner/operators to purchase land. We will talk about land ownership trends and how agricultural cycles help determine land values and return on investment. We will also discuss different types of rental arrangements and what makes for a great relationship between a land owner and a tenant.
My presentation will also include a history of Iowa farmland values and a discussion of the current state of Iowa agriculture. My hope at the end of discussion is that each of you will have even a better understanding of what drives the emotion and pride that comes from owning a piece of those 30 million crop acres in Iowa.
