While written texts stipulate that the ideal Roman woman stayed home and supervised her household, works of art and other objects inform us of a range of activities women undertook. They not only raised the children, but they also participated in religious festivals, served as priestesses, and undertook philanthropic projects in their towns. Dr. Rachel Meyers, Assistant Professor of Classical Studies will examine a series of objects in the exhibition A New World: 600 BCE - 600 CE to reconstruct more fully the lives of Roman women.
