Craft of the Month: Day of the Dead Skulls
Dia de Muertos is a Mexican holiday focused on remembering friends and family members who have died. One tradition includes building private altars honoring the deceased using decorated skulls, marigolds, and possessions of the departed. You will receive a skull, decorating materials and images for inspiration.
Knitting Class
Learn the basics of knitting: cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off, rib stitch, increase and decrease techniques, pattern reading, gauge swatching, and picking up dropped stitches. Bring a pair of #7 or #8 single-point needles. Yarn will be provided.
Performance: Young Concert Artist
Clarinetist Narek Arutyunian comes to Ames as part of Iowa State Center's Martha-Ellen Tye Performing Arts Institute. Arutyunian has appeared with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra as well as many festivals including Julliard ChamberFest, New York Festival of Song and the 2015 Marlboro Music Festival.

Paint Your Own Pottery: Bubble Painting
"Painting" bisque is a fun and relaxing activity that can be done solo or with a group of friends. This technique is sort of like blowing bubbles when you were a kid, but we do it with a straw and paint. The popped bubbles show up and make interesting patterns on the finished pieces. Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend plus the cost of the bisque you select.

MAIDS' original style of Midwest Disco is all about bringing people together in one place to have a good time and get immersed in waves of electronic dance pop. Whether the music is experienced through headphones or dancing at a live show, Danny Heggen and Mickey Davis have developed a homegrown, Midwestern concoction that reminds all of us that life, simply put, is awesome.

Faculty recital: Amy Christensen
Amy Christensen, lecturer in music, is teaching oboe, English horn, and double reeds methods class. She received a Master of Music in Oboe Performance degree from Yale University where she was the recipient of the distinguished Ellen Battell Stoekel Award. She has performed with orchestras across the U.S. including notable groups in Boston, Cambridge, Aspen and throughout the states of Connecticut and Iowa.

Argentine Tango Practica
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4-5pm moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for better dancing. From 5-7pm the dance floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie and working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.
Performance: Comedian Kevin Hart
Hart brings his "What Now?" tour to campus. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Aug. 24 via Ticketmaster or the ISU Athletics ticket office.

Screen Printing Class
Learn an inexpensive way to create custom t-shirts. Using your own design, learn to make a screen with the photographic emulsion method. Bring in your shirts and print away! This class is required in order to use our screen printing equipment.

Class: Stress-Free Colored Water Pencil Drawing
4 week course on Wednesdays, October 7, 14, 21, and 28. Designed for absolute beginners, this class will introduce you to the versatile medium of colored water pencils.
Oil Painting Class
Become comfortable using oil paint, and gain confidence in color mixing, composition, and paint application. It is meant for both beginners who have never painted before and more experienced painters who would like to try a new perspective and get a chance to paint with others.
Walk-In Craft: Tube Cuffs
Upcycle bicycle inner tubes into wearable art. Add patterns and imagery by stamping with white ink. Add snaps and walk out with a "tubular" cuff! Or, for the hardcore bikers, add Velcro instead of snaps and make an ankle cuff that will tether your pant leg while riding. Meet members of the Ames Bicycle Coalition, a group of community members dedicated to the development of safe infrastructure for cyclists.
Walk-In Dance: Belly Dance
A Three Pillars Delsarte based approach to Middle Eastern Belly Dance in the style of award winning performer Shiara. Learn the basic movements of belly dance with a specific focus and detailed exploration each week (listed below). The 8:20pm class will focus on technique, expression and choreography.
ISU Jazz Ensembles I & II
Jazz II, under the tutelage of Michael Giles, presents a program with the theme "As Seen on TV." Plenty of quality jazz music has slipped under the radar, disguised as television show themes. Their portion of the concert includes tunes penned by Paul Anka and Quincy Jones, arranged by John Fedchock and Doc Severinsen.
