Youth Program: Plant Pals
Join us and cultivate a real garden at Reiman Gardens. We will learn about and grow lots of vegetables, pumpkins, tomatoes and sunflowers, as well as beautiful flowers. Each session has hands-on activities to interact with all the wonderful plants that we enjoy and eat. Classes are great for kids of all ages to participate in with an adult.
Online Tele-Workshop: Teaching In No Time: How To Have A Stress-Free Semester (4 sessions)
In this four-week course (July 24 and 31, August 3 and 10) you will learn the basics of planning and executing a stress-free course. Through weekly calls and exercises, you will develop the skills you need to teach effectively with less time and stress. Participants can revise a current course or plan a new one.
Paint Your Own Pottery: Summer Drinkware
Join us for a fun exploration of techniques in "painting" bisque. Whether your drink of choice is a tall glass of lemonade or a slushy margarita, personalize one for your next patio gathering.
Workshop: Nature Journaling
This is a four week course on Thursdays, July 17, July 24, July 31, and August 7 Whether you are a budding naturalist, artist, or writer, Reiman Gardens is the ideal setting to observe & record pollinating insects, tropical butterflies, & native flora and fauna. Yvonne Brune of Creative Department will lead you through different garden areas exploring techniques to capture your experiences in nature through writing or sketching. Ages 10+

Workshop: Make an Alien Plant
Join 2014 Alien Invasion artists Pam Dennis & Ryk Weiss for a workshop to create an alien plant to grow in a dark corner of your house or garden. Use willow, tooled metal, paper pulp, screen & a variety of repurposed objects. Participants need to bring sharp pruning shears, a small hammer, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, & small found objects. Willow, nails, screen, paper pulp & some found objects will be provided for participants to share.

American Solar Challenge Showcase
Ames will serve as a race car checkpoint for the 2014 Americal Solar Challenge. The competing solar cars, including ISU's Team PrISUm, will stop en route from Omaha to La Crosse, Wisconsin. The cars in the cross-country race are designed, built and driven by college teams. Activiites and displays are part of the free public event.

Argentine Tango Practica Class
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4 - 5pm moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for dancing better.

Great Plants for Iowa Series: Tropicals Inside and Out
This series will allow participants to develop knowledge of the wide variety of garden plants that grow well in Central Iowa. Covering nearly 500 plants, these 16 classes are spread across several years. Each class focuses on identification, cultural requirements, and the use of the plants in gardens and the broader landscape.

Kids' Story Time
Each session features a theme with two or three books read aloud followed by a related craft or activity. The books, crafts and activities are intended for children ages two to seven years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
