ISU Retirees social and program
All ISU retirees and their spouses are invited to become actively involved in the ISU Retirees Association. There are no membership dues; all that is required is an interest in participating in its activities and programs.

Planetarium Show
Are you curious about space? Do you wonder about what you can see in the night sky? If so, bring your questions and come to the ISU Planetarium to learn more. The show is suitable for all ages and will be followed by a star-gazing session (weather permitting). Free tickets for the show will be available at the door starting at 6:30 pm.
ZuZu African Acrobats
The Zuzu Acrobats is a 45 minute show and it features 5 male acrobats from Mombasa Kenya. This show is similar to a show you would see in a nightclub in the coastal region of Kenya and Tanzania. This year the group performed in America's Got Talent! This event is part of Black History Month!
Dance social
Free dance social hosted by the ISU Ballroom Dance Club. Singles welcome. Dress is casual, however indoor shoes or socks must be worn.

"DOUBT: A PARABLE." Charismatic young Father Flynn begins a sermon by asking, "What do you do when you're not sure?" Audiences soon learn that little is certain in John Patrick Shanley's brilliant, aptly titled play.
Charity Skate
Support the community and have a fun night of ice skating with friends! The annual Charity Skate, hosted by honor society Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma, offers a night on the ice, games and door prizes. Cost: Only two nonperishable food items! All donations go to Ames Emergency Residence Project.

Experiment with different Effetre glasses that are known to cause color reactions, including Evil Devitrifying Purple! If time allows, we will also try to produce a reduction flame on our torches and learn about the effects of this type of flame.

Mary Creswell, mezzo-soprano & William David, piano
Faculty members Mary Creswell and William David perform in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. The duet between voice and piano in art song, performing songs by Haydn, Strauss, Rossini and Gurney. Dr. David also will play a Persichetti piano sonata.

Lecture: Nobel Laureate Dan Shechtman
Dan Shechtman, an Iowa State professor of materials science and engineering and research scientist for the Ames Laboratory, won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The honor was awarded for his discovery of quasicrystals, crystalline materials. He joined Iowa State and the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory in 2004. Reception to follow.

Assembled: Metal, Clay, Fiber, Wood & Mixed Media Student Exhibit Reception
Assembled is a juried exhibition showcasing mixed media and three dimensional artworks by Iowa State students. The show is open for any and all Iowa State students to enter. The drop off date for submissions is Sunday, February 5th from 12pm - 3pm. The reception will be held on Tuesday, February 21st at 7pm. There will be a showing of the documentary "Waste Land" following the reception.

New York artist Vik Muniz depicts an emotional journey to his native Brazil to Jardim Gramacho, the world's largest landfill on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs and collaborates with the brilliant "catadores," pickers of recyclable materials, who live and work in the landfills. These inspiring characters reveal both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. All are invited to attend.
ISU Percussion Ensemble
ISU Percussion Ensemble will feature the music of Mark Ford. Mark Ford, renowned educator, performer, and Coordinator of Percussion at the University of North Texas will be on the ISU campus for this concert. The ISU Percussion is under the direction of Mr. Matthew Coley.

Seminar: Finding Industry Standards at ISU
What are industry standards and why do they matter? This seminar will provide basic information on how standards are created and "approved" by the main U.S. and International standards organizations: ANSI, ASTM, and ISO. Participants also will learn how to search and locate standards within the ISU Library. Preregistration is required on Access Plus (under Employee HRS Course Listings).
