Open house: Power Plant's 125th
Nine years after Thomas Edison pioneered cogeneration -- a very efficient process of generating both power and heat -- Iowa State incorporated it into its first power plant (1891). The leading small jazz groups on campus commence again to feature profile concerts about some of their favorite artists. Reiman Gardens' discovery stations add a fun, informal activity in the gardens, and are family oriented and designed so both youth and adults can participate.
SCAVMA Scamper 5K/10K Run/Walk
The College of Veterinary Medicine will host its 33rd annual SCAVMA (Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Association) Scamper 5K/10K run/walk. This is a dog-friendly race and competitors are encouraged to bring their canine companions. Entry fee includes chip timing, a race T-shirt, post-race refreshments and an entry for one of several door prizes.

Design Thinking in Action: New Ways to Reuse Recyclable Materials
Students in the spring 2016 DES 230: Design Thinking class, taught by architecture senior lecturer Patience Lueth, will share projects in an exhibition celebrating Earth Day at Wheatsfield Cooperative in Ames. The project helped students learn about the process of design thinking by giving them the opportunity to tackle an everyday problem and create an everyday reusable product while relating to tangible clients and stakeholders.
