The Lonely Biscuits
The Lonely Biscuits are an alternative rock band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. The band is comprised of Grady Wenrich (vocals, guitar), Sam Gidley (drums), and Nick Byrd (bass). The Lonely Biscuits formed in August 2011 at Belmont University, where Grady Wenrich and Sam Gidley were roommates. Bassist Nick Byrd lived on the same floor and joined the band in January 2012.

Longtime Iowa State professor and administrator George Jackson died July 3 in Coral Springs, Florida, at the age of 75.

Art Nouveau and the Decorative Arts
The Art Nouveau style was especially popular during the period of 1890-1910 and celebrated curved lines, flowers, and plants, while also reacting against the typical historicizing Victorian taste of the time. No art form embraced the style more than the decorative arts. Assistant curator Adrienne Gennett will guide visitors through the history and aesthetic of the Art Nouveau movement.

Walk-in Argentine Tango
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4-5pm, moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for dancing better. From 5-7pm, the dance floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie and working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.

Retirement Symposium: Dealing with Dementia
Speakers include Christine Sutton, author of "Stop and Smell the Garbage;" Susan Callison, program specialist from the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Iowa; and Dr. Selden Spencer, neurologist at McFarland Clinic. The first 175 individuals to register will receive a tote bag with goodies and handouts, and a box lunch at 12:30 p.m.
In Between Infill: Berlin Summer Academy 2016 Exhibition Opening Reception
Opening reception for an exhibition of work by eight ISU architecture students who participated in the ars 16 berlin summer academy, a five-week workshop organized by Iowa State in partnership with Beuth Hoschule fur Technik Berlin, City College New York, the German University of Technology (GUtech), Muscat Oman, and the Berlin housing association, WBM Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Berlin-Mitte, to address infill situations with innovative approaches.

Zlatan Krizan, associate professor in psychology, will present "How Sleep Shapes Social Behavior (and Vice Versa)" at the next Osborn Club lecture. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Iowa State's inaugural 3MT®, founded in 2008 at the University of Queensland. Up to 30 master's and doctoral students present their research to an audience of non-experts in the discipline. Each is limited to one slide and three minutes' time.

"Death by a Thousand Cuts (Muerte por mil cortes)" centers on the island's fight for natural resources and highlights the ongoing struggle with deforestation as well as tensions between Haitians and Dominicans along the border and beyond.

Lecture: Architecture with a Detour
Carlos Bedoya, founding partner of Mexico City-based architecture firm Productora, will present "Architecture with a Detour" as part of the 2016-17 ISU Department of Architecture Lecture Series. He will look at Productora's work "through a set of architectural variables as a means to tease out the practice's engagement not with solving problems per se, but with engaging the inherent 'difficulty' of architecture as a productive element of design."
Research Networking Social: Youth Inclusion in Public Space
The College of Design invites researchers interested in advancing youth inclusion in public space to attend the inaugural research networking social on this topic. The social aims to find common ground between disciplines by generating research questions, exploring methodologies and discussing aspirations for future collaborations. Light snacks and a child-friendly movie with a babysitter will be provided.
