Celebrate spring and the current exhibitions during Brunnier in Bloom, the Museum's annual pairing of beautiful art and fabulous flowers. This event showcases the talents of Ames-area floral designers and garden clubs as they're challenged to create arrangements inspired by works of art in the Museum's collection.

Anne Clifford is the Msgr. James Supple Chair of Catholic Studies in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Iowa State. She will discuss the work of environmentalist, women's rights activist and 2004 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Wangari Maathai.

Open forum: Residence department's associate director for facilities candidate, Mark Huss
The department of residence has named four finalists for its associate director for facilities position. An open forum is planned for each candidate during the March 27-April 5 timeframe. All are invited to attend.

This hands-on workshop will introduce users to Knovel, which provides a searchable database of handbooks, datasets and reference sources in science, technology and engineering through a single interface. The Star Wars saga has been a cultural phenomenon for over thirty years, and assistant professor of ancient history Ralph Covino is a true aficionado. His talkdiscusses the influence of so-called sword-and-sandals films like "Ben Hur" and "Spartacus" on the Star Wars series.
High/Low: Graffiti, Embroidery, Technology
Teresa Paschke, associate professor of Integrated Studio Arts, creates art that explores the notion of tags, monograms, and other "markings" through textiles. She will be joined by Amy Bix, associate professor of History, who will talk about the history and technological development of textile printing.
Lecture: American Foreign Policy after Iraq and Afghanistan
Former Indiana Congressman Lee Hamilton directs the Center on Congress, a non-partisan educational institution he established in 1999. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1965 to 1999 and for more than forty years has been an important voice on international relations and American national security. The 2011 Manatt-Phelps Lecture in Political Science.

Cynda Crawford, DVM, Ph.D., University of Florida, will present "H3N8 Canine Influenza Virus Epidemiology." Crawford led the team that first identified the divergence of the H3N8 canine virus from the equine virus.

Ursula Emery McClure, FAAR, AIA, LEED AP, will present "Against Specialization," the Richard F. Hansen Lecture in Architecture, part of the Architecture Advisory Council Lecture Series at Iowa State University. With Michael A. McClure, Emery McClure is a founding partner of emerymcclure architecture, llc, Lafayette, La. She also is an associate professor in the School of Architecture at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.
Symphony of the Soil: Film and Discussion with Deborah Koons Garcia
"Symphony of the Soil" is a multi-film project that explores the world of soil, including how it is formed, its life cycle, human uses and misuses in agriculture, and soil's role in addressing global environmental problems.
Lecture: Gender, Culture and Politics at the Chicago World's Fair
Among the most popular attractions at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair was the Woman's Building, an exhibit hall filled with the products of women's labor, including a library of more than 8,000 volumes of writing by women. Wayne Wiegand will discuss his new co-authored publication, Right Here I See My Own Books, which situates the Woman's Building Library in its historical context.
MIKE DOUGHTY, The Book of Drugs: Reading, Concert, Q&A
Mike Doughty and his book "The Book of Drugs." He'll read gleefully dark, haunted, and funny stories about addiction, the rise and bitter collapse of his band Soul Coughing, playing songs in between. There'll even be a Q&A with the audience.
