Responsible animal research: Informational session
"How to Perform Category D and E Searches," with Dr. Mary Sauer, ISU attending veterinarian. She will address federal regulatory requirements regarding pain and distress, and provide tips for completing IACUC application forms. Spelling It Out: The Communication Roles of a Game Designer
Nathan Sumsion is a senior game designer at Avalanche-Disney Interactive Studios. Most recently, he was senior designer on Toy Story 3 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii, released in summer 2010, and on Meet the Robinsons for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Wii and Xbox 360, released in spring 2007. He also taught Game Design Process and Visual Interface Design in the game design program at ITT Tech in Salt Lake City.

Symposium on Affordable Housing and Disaster Resilience
Experts in affordable housing, disaster resilience and sustainable design will join local housing and planning officials and housing developers in the Symposium on Affordable Housing and Disaster Resilience. Discussion will center on strategies for continued development of sustainable neighborhoods and affordable housing in areas of Cedar Rapids affected by the 2008 flood, and how similar strategies may benefit other communities.

Todd Schliemann, FAIA, is a founding partner and design principal in Ennead Architects (formerly Polshek Partnership Architects) in New York City. Among his recent projects are the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History. The Richard Hansen Lecture in Architecture is part of the Architecture Advisory Council Lecture Series.

Memorial Service: Margaret "Marty" Baker Graham
Graham, a professor of English, died Jan. 6 after a long illness. She taught English and women's studies courses from 1983 to 2010, and served as director of first-year composition from 1994 to 2003. This is a public event.
