Bookbinding
Learn how to create a sketchbook or journal using the Coptic stitch. Use a variety of tools and materials to make books that reflect your personality. Leave class with two books and the know-how to keep cutting, folding and stitching more.
Class: Haiku in the Gardens
Join local published poet, Dennis Maulsby, for another course in four weekly sessions examining the history, nature, and variations of haiku poetry. Learn to write and appreciate this beautiful poetic art within the endlessly inspiring landscape of the outdoor gardens, focusing on the splendor of autumn. No poetry or writing background required-perfect for beginners and those wishing to improve their grasp of the form.
Class: Macro Flower & Insect Photography
Mark Stoltenberg is back to teach a four part workshop covering the basics of macro flower and insect photography. Topics include equipment and how to use it, depth of field, aperture, light, composition, finding your subject, and tips and tricks. Each class is broken into 3 parts: classroom discussion, hands-on practice taking pictures by the students, and review of the images taken.
Bookbinding
Learn the basics of knitting: cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off, rib stitch, increase and decrease techniques, pattern reading, gauge swatching, and picking up dropped stitches. Bring a pair of #7 or #8 single-point needles. Yarn will be provided.
Lecture: Engineering Countries and the Problem of Globalization
Gary Downey was trained as a mechanical engineer and a cultural anthropologist. He is the Alumni Distinguished Professor of Science and Technology Studies at Virginia Tech. Part of the Technology, Globalization and Culture Series.

A Conversation on the National Debt
Erskine Bowles is President Emeritus of the University of North Carolina, where he served as president for five years. He served in the Clinton Administration as director of the Small Business Administration and then as the President's Chief of Staff. Most recently, President Obama appointed him to cochair, with Alan Simpson of Wyoming, a bipartisan national commission on how to improve the country's fiscal health.

Planetarium Show
Are you curious about space? Do you wonder about what you can see in the night sky? If so, bring your questions and come to the ISU Planetarium to learn more. The first show will start at 7:00 pm and is geared toward a younger audience, followed at 7:30 pm by a show for a general audience. Weather permitting a star-gazing session will be held after dark. Tai Chi
Learn the Yang Style Short Form as developed by Cheng Man Ching. The fun, easy-to-learn movements of The Form refresh the spirit and help improve balance, posture, flexibility, confidence, circulation, and overall health and well-being. Students will also learn a few Baqua and Chi Kung health exercises.
