Borlaug Lecture: World Food Prize Laureate Simon Groot
"First" The Seed," with the 2019 World Food Prize Laureate, Simon Groot, a sixth-generation seedsman and the founder and leader of East-West Seed. Having observed the many challenges facing poverty-stricken smallholder farmers in Southeast Asia, Groot founded East-West Seed in 1982 in the Philippines.

BRA (Bras to Recycle and Aid Women) Collection
In partnership with I Support the Girls, the Office of Sustainability is collecting gently-used and unwanted bras toward supporting Central Iowa women in need.
Majors Fair
More than 100 ISU major and minor degree programs will be represented in one room. The Majors Fair is for any students who are Open Option, undecided, thinking about changing their major, want a second major, or interested in a minor.
Earth Observation Day
This free event celebrates remote sensing and GIS (geographic information system). It starts with a faculty presentation and concludes with a mapathon. Pizza lunch is provided for all who RSVP.
Meeting: Faculty Senate
The Faculty Senate represents the general faculty of Iowa State and participates in shared governance of the University with the administration. Senate meetings are open to the public.
Acrylic Painting Class
Kyle Renell Discover the versatility of acrylic - a water-soluble medium that dries quickly. Learn basic color theory as well as painting from both life and photographs. Techniques will include monochromatic painting, full color application, and glazing. For beginning painters or those with some experience wanting to expand their skills.
Beginner Ukulele Lessons 1
Billy Kearney Learn the basics needed to make music on the ever-popular ukulele. It's like a guitar, only a whole lot easier! You will learn to tune your instrument and make basic chords plus how to accompany yourself or others using basic chord charts and song sheets, all in a fun and inclusive setting.
Floral Design: Trick or Treat: Tabletop Displays
Create an arrangement inspired by the craftiest of holidays, full of floral surprises and other "treats". Registration with pre-payment is required one week in advance.
#WhyIStayed: Domestic Violence as a Community Issue
"#WhyIStayed: Domestic Violence as a Community Issue," Beverly Gooden, social activist and creator of the #WhyIStayed hashtag and global movement. Gooden challenges the question "Why did he/she stay" and reveals how the current way we interact with survivors is a house of cards. A lecture about intimacy, compassion and equality, scheduled as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Intermediate Ukulele Lessons
Billy Kearney If you can already easily move through chord changes and are fluent with closed chords (ex: Bb, Eb, G#) but still don't know how to get "that sound," this class is for you. Learn poly rhythms and melodic chording techniques to make you ukulele playing stand out. Learn to get the most out of you uke and use more of the neck. Must be able to play chords up to tempo.
Open Mic Night
Open Mic Night gives students the chance to show off their talents to fellow peers. Many perform as musicians, comedians, and poets. Enjoy a night full of talented Iowa State Students. (Sign Up starts at 7:30 p.m. until all spots are filled)
Lecture: How to Find a Planet Without Leaving Your Couch
Chris Lintott, professor of astrophysics and research fellow at Oxford's New College, will discuss what we know and don't know, explain how you might find a planet of your own using only a laptop, and discuss the progress of NASA's TESS planet hunting mission.

Stitched Constellation Wall Hanging Class
Judy Lemish Commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing! Create an easy patchwork block using blue hues of the night sky, and embroider your astrological zodiac sign. This 20" square can be stitched into a wall hanging or a pillowcase for you or someone special. This is a beginner class, but some basic sewing machine skills are helpful.
Town Hall with Mayor Pete
Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg will be on campus for a town hall, which will include the opportunity to ask the South Bend, Indiana mayor questions. The doors open at 6pm and the event will begin at 6:30pm. Buttigieg was elected mayor of South Bend in 2011 at age 29; he won re-election in 2015 with 80 percent of the vote.

"Knowing How to Break the Rules: Set Design on Broadway," Rachel Hauck, 2019 Tony award-winning set designer for the Broadway musical "Hadestown," and the 2019 Tony-nominated play "What the Constitution Means to Me." Hauck will discuss her journey as a woman in the arts and talk about ways to create more opportunities for women and people of color on Broadway.
