Seminar: "Taking Technology to Market: Patenting 101"
This seminar will be an introduction to U.S. patent law, led by Brian Lally, assistant chief counsel, Intellectual Property Law Division, U.S. Department of Energy. It is open to students, faculty, entrepreneurs and anyone interested in learning more about protecting their inventions and ideas in the marketplace.

Lecture: The Successful Grant Proposal: A Reviewer's Perspective
Hear arts and humanities faculty discuss their experiences on grant review committees. James Andrews (history) will open the workshop with a presentation discussing what a grant review board expects to see in a grant proposal. Next, faculty in the arts and humanities will provide brief, individual presentations. A moderated panel discussion and Q&A session will wrap up the discussion.

"Creating Opportunities for Independence," Karen Keninger, Iowa Department for the Blind. She will speak about what it is like to be blind, how the department's services help people, misconceptions about blindness, public perception and many of the hurdles a blind person must overcome in order to live an independent life.
